Most communities have financial incentives in place to reduce solid waste, increase recycling rates, and reduce contamination rates. Despite a recent decline in commodities prices, the differential between tipping fees for trash versus recycling means that every town or city can save money by increasing its residential recycling rate.
Unfortunately, recycling rates in many communities are not as high as they could be. And let’s face it. Most people are confused about what goes in the recycling bin or bag and what goes in the trash. In addition, few residents understand that reducing solid waste and increasing their own recycling rate will enable their towns to spend taxpayer dollars on other needs and services.
Demystifying Recycling for Your Community’s Residents
At GreenCents Communications, we’ll work with your Department of Public Works, your waste hauler, and your material recovery facility to get the facts straight and communicate them to the public. We can help your residents increase their recycling rate and reduce your town’s contamination rate.
We offer a variety of communications materials and programs, including:
- Printed or electronic newsletters
- Well-written, well-designed website pages
- Public presentations to your residents and government leaders
- Social media content
- Educational videos that can play on local cable access TV or on YouTube
All of these communications can be customized to fit the exact recycling practices and rules in your community. We also offer additional services for municipalites, including:
Grant Writing Services
Each year, the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) provides grants to Massachusetts municipalities through its Sustainable Materials Recovery Program (SMRP). In 2015, MassDEP awarded $3.29 million to 184 municipalities.
These grants help municipalities pay for recycling, composting, reuse, and source reduction activities that will increase diversion of municipal solid waste and household hazardous waste from disposal. Grants are available for recycling and composting equipment, Pay-As-You-Throw programs, waste reduction enforcement, school recycling, and organics capacity development projects.
Our grant writing services will help your municipality get the grants it needs to achieve its waste reduction and recycling goals.
